JOTA 2015- Record participation
The B.E.A.R. Black Powder Club played host once again to Jamboree on the Air. (JOTA) on it's 58th year of existance.
The third weekend in October always marks Jamboree on the Air. This yearly event is an opportunity for scouts from all over North America and the world to talk to each other via amateur radio.
On hand were members of the Orchard City Amateur Radio Club who set up radio stations and antenna arrays in the goal to get scouts talking on the airwaves.
The B.E.A.R. Club, in sharing their facilities, gave them a great opportunity to introduce black powder shooting and Amateur radio to a new generation. One hundred scouts and their leaders were present to enjoy what the weekend event had to offer.
The weekend also included bow and arrow as well tomahawk and knife throwing in keeping with our Canadian heritage.
Radio and black powder combined, make for a successful weekend. The event has turned into a yearly tradition for the B.E.A.R. club.
New Primitive camp being created
A newly created primitive camp is coming together, thanks to enthusiastic members.
Because of the ever encroachment of tin city camping, a separate primitive camp area needed to be created. Thus far, an area has been chosen, a newly created road runs through it, and individual camp sites have been created.
The February Kermodi shoot will be the perfect venue to showcase the clubs new endeavor.
With more work scheduled for spring, the camp will evolve into a class "A" blackpowder primitive site.
